Tenant Stories
This month we would like to introduce to you our latest tenant at Elmbank Mill in Menstrie. David Glen of Glen & Co Chartered Surveyors. At the turn of last year, David had come to the conclusion that there was no need to continue the commute to Glasgow city centre and he was soon on the search for an office closer to home. The move has freed up time and provides him with a much improved work environment.
City to Scenic
Having worked in Glasgow city centre for 25 years (10 as an employee and 15 running his own practice) and increasingly realising that many of the client appointments were at their business locations rather than at his offices, he was spending too much time burning diesel on the M80. David decided it was time to boot the commute and stay local.
Closer to Home
Working in the hive of the city had been great over the years. However, in recent years things started to change (even more significantly this year due to Covid-19). The administrative burden of maintaining a city centre office was multiplying. The importance of the after-work socialising had waned significantly in recent years. Attending site meetings continued as before but was there any need to spend days in a city office when not with clients?
Working from Home
When David started out on his own in 2005, he had given working from home a try. But, as most of us have also found out after this year, it can be quite difficult to work from home due to family, distractions and not having the right equipment/furniture to work from. It can be difficult to differentiate between work and home life too, so when he decided a move was on the cards, the search for a local office began.
Ceteris Properties
David made an enquiry with us and at first he was looking at the business centres in Alloa (Alloa Business Centre and the E-Centre) but really liked the converted mill at Elmbank in Menstrie. And as it was only a short distance from his house it looked the perfect scenic location for his office. He has swapped a 45 minute drive for a 45 minute walk to work. Although he admits to having slipped back to taking the car more often now that the Autumn weather is here!
Making it Comfortable
All of the Ceteris offices come with standard décor (white walls and plain carpets) which our tenants can decorate as they see fit. David has made his office his own with fantastic pictures, comfortable couch/seating, vibrant pillows, plants and his extremely glamorous assistant, Marvin the Labrador!
Glen & Co Chartered Surveyors
David advises and deals across the whole spectrum of commercial property interests – shop, office, licensed trade and industrial property. On behalf of clients he will advise on landlord/tenant negotiations and will buy, sell, acquire and let commercial properties across Scotland. His clients range from institutional property companies to individual shopkeepers and everything in between. Recognisable names in his client portfolio include Costa Coffee, KFC, Taco Bell, Betfred the Bookmaker and even Heathrow Airport. Covid-19 has certainly offered up a number of challenges but work is as busy as ever.
