About World Cafe
The World Café Method is a flexible and effective framework for hosting group dialogue, guided by seven design principles. It consists of five key components:
- Setting: Create a café-like atmosphere with small round tables, tablecloths, butcher paper, pens, and optional decorative items, seating 4-5 people per table.
- Welcome and Introduction: The host warmly welcomes participants, introduces the process, and shares guidelines to set the context and ensure comfort.
- Small-Group Rounds: Participants engage in 15-20 minute conversations in small groups. After each round, they rotate to new tables, optionally leaving a “table host” to summarize prior discussions.
- Questions: Each round is guided by purpose-specific, thoughtfully crafted questions that may remain the same or build upon each other.
- Harvest: Insights from the discussions are shared with the larger group and visually captured through methods like graphic recording.
