Ceteris and Progressive Pathways are pleased to announce the successful completion of two pilot Green Skills training programmes in Clackmannanshire and Stirling. Designed to address the growing demand for skilled workers in the renewable energy sector, these 6-week programmes focused on wind turbine operations. Participants gained essential skills and industry-recognised certifications to support their careers in the green economy.
Funded by the Scottish Government’s No One Left Behind initiative through Stirling and Clackmannanshire Local Employability Partnerships, each programme welcomed ten participants, offering 15 hours of training a week. The course provided a comprehensive introduction to renewable energy, combining classroom learning with practical, hands-on experience.
Participants gained a strong foundation in wind turbine operations, covering key aspects such as design, installation, and maintenance. They also found out about the various wind turbine designs, their components, and how turbines function within the broader energy landscape.
The programme included a visit to a wind turbine site in the North of Scotland, and participants gained hands-on experience in safety risks, problem-solving, wind turbine model building and intelligent fall assist systems. They also prepared CVs and participated in interviews with recruitment companies specialising in the Green Skills sector, offering them a clear pathway into careers within renewable energy.
Industry-recognised qualifications
At the end of the training, participants received industry-recognised qualifications, including:
- Winda ID
- GWO Certification
- Working at Heights
- First Aid
- Manual Handling
- Fire Safety
- CPD Accreditation

Tina Coviello, Director at Green Skills Training and Progressive Pathways said: “Our Green Skills program in the onshore wind industry is not just about powering a cleaner future—it’s about future-proofing careers. By working in partnership with Ceteris, we’ve been able to equip participants with essential skills, including exposure to drone operations, fall assist training, and blade inspections. These technical competencies, and exposure to related careers ensure that participants are exposed to and prepared to move into this fast-growing sector and contribute to the green economy for years to come.”
John MacCallum, a graduate of Clackmannanshire Green Skills Training commented: “My experience with the Green Skills Programme was incredibly rewarding. The sessions were engaging, well-structured, and delivered by passionate experts, whose enthusiasm, positivity and supportiveness made learning enjoyable. I particularly appreciated the hands-on approach, which reinforced key concepts effectively.
This experience has deepened my understanding of green skills and will inspire me to contribute more actively to renewable energy efforts. I have gained certificates recognised by the Global Wind Organisation and I have learned so much in a comparatively short period of time. This course has boosted my confidence, motivation and overall outlook and it is fair to say I already have a few potential opportunities to apply the skills gained from this wonderful course. I would highly recommend the Green Skills Training Programme to anyone looking to expand their environmental awareness and make a positive impact to themselves and others”.
Ceteris, Green Skills Training Limited and Progressive Pathways are committed to expanding the Green Skills Programme and providing further opportunities for individuals to build a career in renewable energy. We look forward to continuing to support the growth of the green economy in Scotland in the coming years.
